The AAT treatment method originally designed for humans has been adapted for the treatment of animals. It is designed to alter an animal's allergic reaction to substances in his or her environment or food. It is a natural, drugless, painless and non-invasive method that can be used safely on animals as well as humans. It changes the way the animal's body identifies the things she or he is allergic to and the reaction is eliminated. This treatment has been used for many years on humans and has a success rate of 80-90%.
What can be treated?
The treatment is effective for all sorts of allergic reactions in animals even problems you might not consider allergies: skin problems, digestive problems like bloating, gas and diarrhea, reoccurring infections, unexplained pain, itching, weepy eyes, asthma. Even behavioral problems and failing energy can be related to underlying sensitivities. Many health problems that don’t seem to be allergic may be made worse by inflammation and hypersensitivities that are treatable.

What is the treatment?
The treatment identifies the offending substances and the organs and acupuncture meridians that are affected. The treatment itself is gentle stimulation along the spine and then balancing a few acupressure points using manual massage or a laser or small vibrator. There are no acupuncture needles used, nor is the animal caused any discomfort or distress. Animals love to be treated because it feels good.

How does it work?
Medical scientists are still researching to find the exact cause and nature of allergies, but may not have all the answers for years to come. From a Western medical point of view, allergy is an over-reaction by the immune system mediated by the immunoglobulin IgE causing a histamine release. Allergies are viewed from a holistic perspective, based on Oriental Medical principles. An allergy is a condition of unusual sensitivity of one person (or animal!) to one or more substances that are harmless to the majority of others. In the allergic person or animal, the allergic substance, known as an allergen, is viewed by the brain and immune system as a threat to the body's wellbeing. Therefore, for our purposes, an allergy is defined in terms of what a substance does to the energy flow in the body. When contact is made with an allergen, it causes blockages in the energy pathways called meridians, or we can say it disrupts the normal flow of energy through the body's electro-magnetic circuits. This energy blockage causes interference in communication between the brain and body via the nervous system. This blocked energy flow is the first step in a chain of events that can develop into an allergic response. Allergies are the result of energy imbalances in the body, leading to a diminished state of health in one or more organ system. Allergy desensitization can help with many problems which do not appear to be "allergic" and are difficult to treat in other ways.

How many treatments are necessary to help?
Allergens are cleared (treated) one at a time with this technique. In most cases, that's all it takes... one session to eliminate an allergy. Animals respond very well. Usually, only 3 to 10 treatments are needed to completely eliminate all the pet’s allergies and improve their health.

We ask that you bring your pet to our clinic for an initial evaluation and sometimes again for re-evaluation. We have found that animals may be treated for several allergens in a session, and that they do better if we treat them in a familiar environment so most of the time your pet will be treated at home.

How much does it cost?
An initial evaluation is $150. You will be asked to bring your pet’s favorite things, samples of food and any medications to the first session.

Treatment sessions are $60 to $85. If your home is a long way from our office, you may be charged a reasonable fee for mileage and the travel time.
Please note: In Connecticut, a vet’s referral is needed to treat any animal. If your veterinarian has never heard of these treatments, we will help you find someone who will support your choice.
